Xbox One & PS4 Games to Look Forward to in 2014

Release Date: Q4 2014
With the Halo franchise having sold over 50 million copies, Halo 5 could be a make or break game for Xbox sales. There is no official release date yet but we expect it in 2014 and a close to Christmas release (November) is a good bet. It’s being produced by Halo 4 makers 343 Industries and along with the game, Xbox users will be treated to the Steven Spielberg produced TV series, which looks to be only available to stream via the console (Netflix style).

Release date: 13th March 2014
Produced by Respawn Entertainment, which was founded by Jason West and Vince Zampella, formerly responsible for the Call of Duty titles put out by Infinity Ward, this is the next big release that fans are waiting for with the Xbox One. A Microsoft exclusive (although it will be available on the 360 and PC) the early footage show at E3 looks amazing, with rave reviews coming through from the lucky users who managed to play the demo at the shows. Its a first person shooter, with online multiplayer being the sole mode of gameplay. It looks to develop the standard FPS by giving the player the ability to run along walls, jet-pack over large distances and control giant mechs. It won over 60 awards at it’s E3 reveal, easily coming away from the show as the first must have game on the Xbox One.

Release date: Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain – Q4 2014 to 2015
This game isn’t very straight forward to talk about cut to the fact that it actually two games MGS 5: Ground Zeroes and MGS 5: The Phantom Pain. The first part, Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, is due in the Spring of 2014 and acts as a smaller prelude or prologue to the second installment. Developer Kojima Productions have been keen to play up that this will mark a step in a different direction from previous Metal Gear games, with a larger open-world style of gameplay, while still having a clear mission based objective.

The first part, Ground Zeroes, is a much smaller affair, with the world 300 times smaller than The Phantom Pain. It will also be a little more familiar to Metal Gear fans as the dev plans to break players in slowly to the larger open world style play. The release date for the second part Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain is still unconfirmed but recent news suggests it may not even make the 2014 window, cut to the huge size of the world involved. It will be released across all platforms, Current Gen. and Next Gen., with a PC port also confirmed.

Developed by Ubisoft, The Divison will be a massively multiplayer online third person shooter available on the PS4 and Xbox one. The plot revolves around a real-life event of a disease that quickly spreads across America, causing it to collapse after just 5 days. You are then put into the game as part of the ‘Strategic Homeland Division’ to counter the threat of public disorder and complete social downfall and chaos. The game also blends in facets of RPG style play allowing the player to fully cusomtise their character as the game progresses. The gameplay is balanced between survival and squad based combat (with other real life players, although you can just go off on your own)

Bungie's Destiny on Xbox One and PS4Destiny (Xbox One & PS4)

Developed by Halo creators Bungie, Destiny is an always online first person shooter with a difference. Its based around a huge dynamic universe, in which events may happen which will change the story and gameplay of the user, outside of the developers planned storyline. It’s been referred to as a massively multiplayer online game, but Bungie have said that they don’t see it as such, more of a hybrid of a MMO and traditional gameplay. Its set 700 years in the future after a post-apocalyptic event has seen mankind spread out throughout the galaxy. a new event happens called “The Collapse” which sees most of humanity wiped out, with only those left on Earth’s last city surviving.

Dying Light on Xbox one and PS4Dying Light (Xbox One & PS4)

Developed by Techland, Dying Light is a first-person survival horror open world game. It plot revolves around the earth being over-run with zombies and the player having to scavenge supplies and craft weapons to survive. The world is a huge urban environment, with the infected becoming more aggressive at night and hunting out the player, with certain predators only appearing after the sun has set. You then have to survive until morning to continue to look for supplies to aid your survival.

Another open world game, this time set in the fictional post-apocalyptic universe of the big screen’s Mad Max films. The gameplay reportedly revolves around vehicular combat, with players being able to customise their vehicles and weapons. The story see’s Max hunting through the desert wastelands looking for his prized lost vehicle ‘The Interceptor’.

Developed by Ubisoft, Watch Dogs is a third person open-world game based in a fictionalised future version of Chicago which is run by a supercomputer call CtOS. You play as Aiden Pierce, a highly skilled hacker, who can interact with the world through his skills and can steal various pieces of information or perform assassinations and other nefarious deeds. This was originally meant to be realised early in 2014 but has been delayed until later in the year.

Set around 1000 years before the events of Skyrim, The Elder scrolls online is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game for the Xbox One and PS4. Set within the explorable continent of Tamriel, you will have the choice of playing a one of three factions fighting for the throne of the Emperor of Tamriel. The factions are The Aldmeri Dominion, comprising of Altmer (High elf), Bosmer (Wood elf), and Khajiit, the Daggerfall Covenant, made up of Bretons, Redguards, and Orsimer (Orcs) and the Ebonheart Pact, composed of Nords, Dunmer (Dark elf) and Argonians. The game has been in development for the last six years but the bad news is that you will have to pay a monthly subscription fee to play the game.

Driveclub on the PS4Driveclub (PS4)

Release date: Q1 2014
Originally scheduled as a day one release exclusive for the PS4 before being delayed, Driveclub is a road racing game developed by Evolution Studios. It will play more like Grid 2 than Gran Turismo, with team racing elements and multiplay features rounding out the gameplay.

Developed by Sucker Punch Productions as a PS4 exclusive, Infamous: Second Son is an open-world game set seven years after the ending of Infamous 2. You play as Delsin Rowe, a 24-year old graffiti artist slacker who comes into accidental contact with a conduit awakening his own hidden conduit abilities.

Set in an alternate version of Victorian London where an ancient order of Knights descended from King Arthur keep the world safe from half-bred monsters, you play as one of the order who has to keep the world from falling into darkness.
