Chart Track has announced today that the PS4 has become the fastest selling console in UK history, beating out the Xbox One’s already impressive 150’000 units sold in it’s first 48 hours of availability.
Chart Track hasn’t released the actual number of PS4’s sold, but the previous record was held by Sony’s PSP in 2005 which moved 185’000 units in it’s first 3 days.
PlayStation UK managing director Fergal Gara recenty told CVG that the PS4 was capable of hitting new heights.
“Like North America, the UK is a huge priority for us because it sits at the front-end of appetite for new technology,” the executive said. “With PS4, stock allocation in the UK is very healthy indeed and we go into this ready and willing and break our own previous launch record.”
The PS4 was released two weeks earlier in North America, where it was reported to have sold over one million units during it’s first 24 hours of release, although Microsoft have confirmed that they have also sold over one million units in less than 24 hours. Now all we need is some AAA titles worthy of the Next-Gen hardware to justify the expense.
