The secrecy surrounding the Man of Steel sequel, Batman Vs Superman, or Man of Steel 2, has lifted a little as Zack Synder has confirmed the casting of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. Gadot is best known for her roles in the Fast & Furious franchise as Gisele and the Tom Cruise action flick Knight and Day.
This will be the first time that Wonder Woman has appeared on the big screen although her exact role within the story remains a mystery. There is speculation that DC may be setting her up for a spin-off movie of her own to mimic the Marvel franchises success or for a full-on Justice League movie, with The Flash also rumoured to be appearing.
Casting rumours are continuing as talk turns to the unnamed villain in Batman Vs Superman, with Warner Bros. reportedly looking at Callan Mulvey (Zero Dark Thirty & 300: Rise of the Empire).
Zack Synder spoke to Variety about the casting of Wonder Woman with this to say…
“Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character,”
A Wonder Woman TV series nearly made it to air in 2011 with a pilot being produced but NBC declined to pick it up. It starred Adrianne Palicki as Diana Themyscira / Wonder Woman but being leaked onto the internet, fandom breathed a sigh of relief when it turned out to be terrible.
With Henry Cavill returning as Superman and Ben Affleck starring as Batman, the movie looks to shaping up nicely. The Man of Steel sequel is set for release on 17th July 2015.
